Brethren, last week Bro. Scott Bartlett asked me if I would take a few pictures of the Mosaic Pavement being laid in the Blue Room of our new Freemason’s Hall. I said I would. The work was started last week and finished on May 7, 2008. The pictures are attached and follow the progression of the work from bare floor to finish over a 5 day period.
The two masons who carried out the work are Dominic and Mike Rosia-Bian, who work for Del Tile, a local contractor. The floor tiles are also their handy work. They are young masons who apprenticed under their father Lorenzo Rosia-Bian, who came to our province when he was a young man of 19 years from Maniago, Italy. He started his own business and employed his own sons upon till about two years ago when he passed away at 60 years of age.
The finished Mosaic Pavement is carefully made by skilled hands and is beautiful to see. It is made by true “Operative” Masons who became Master Masons in the manner of the ancients of centuries ago under the tutelage of a Master Mason, their father. How appropriate it is that a Temple of “Speculative” Masons would have one of the most important symbols of our fraternity built by the hands and tools of the “Operative” Masons from whom the rituals of Freemasonry have been created.
