Background
The Masons formally occupied the Masonic Temple on Cathedral Street in St. John’s, which was sold in 2006. It has always been planned that the Home of Freemasonry in the province would be in Masonic Park and that is now a reality.
The Ceremony
The consecration ceremony is a historic one that has been used by Masons at the request of civic leaders to officially open a number of public buildings. Participating in the ceremony will be
Most Worshipful Bro. Maxwell Squires, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador and Sir. Archibald D. Orr Ewing , The Grand Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Antient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland. The invited attendees include dignitaries from the municipal, provincial and federal governments, as well as Masonic bodies and members of other community minded groups.
The New Hall
The new Freemasons Hall is a $2.5 million complex that will contain:
The Provincial offices of the Grand Lodge of Scotland
The Provincial offices of the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador
Lodge meetings rooms
Banquet room
Masonic archives
Masonic Library
Seniors resource centre and recreation room.
